Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP) is a unique immigration program that targets the Atlantic provinces of Canada: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. Launched in 2017, the AIPP aims to address labor market needs and demographic challenges in the Atlantic region by attracting and retaining skilled immigrants and their families. Here’s an overview of the program:
  1. Employer-driven Program: The AIPP is employer-driven, meaning that employers in the Atlantic region play a central role in the immigration process. Employers must be designated by the respective provincial government to participate in the program.
  2. Three Main Streams:
    • Atlantic High-Skilled Program: This stream targets skilled workers with management, professional, or technical/skilled trade experience in NOC skill level 0, A, or B occupations.
    • Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program: This stream is for intermediate-skilled workers with experience in NOC skill level C occupations.
    • Atlantic International Graduate Program: This stream targets international graduates from eligible post-secondary institutions in the Atlantic region. Graduates must have a job offer from a designated employer to be eligible.
  3. Job Offer Requirement: To be eligible for the AIPP, candidates must have a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic provinces. The job offer must be for a full-time, non-seasonal position and meet certain requirements set by the province.
  4. Language Proficiency and Education: Candidates must meet minimum language proficiency requirements in English or French and have completed at least a high school diploma or equivalent education credential.
  5. Settlement Plan: Applicants must also have a settlement plan in place, which includes details on how they plan to settle in the Atlantic region, find suitable housing, and integrate into the community.
  6. Application Process: The application process involves several steps, including obtaining a job offer from a designated employer, submitting an application to the respective provincial government, and meeting all eligibility criteria.
  7. Nomination and Permanent Residence Application: Once nominated by a province under the AIPP, candidates can apply for permanent residence to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). They must submit a complete application for permanent residence and meet all federal admissibility requirements.
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program offers a pathway to permanent residence for skilled workers and international graduates who wish to live and work in the Atlantic region of Canada. It benefits both immigrants and employers by addressing labor shortages, fostering economic growth, and supporting the development of vibrant communities in Atlantic Canada.
